Megan Sweatman (Director / Teacher Tuesday and Thursday)

Since February 2010, I have been the very proud owner and teacher of Bright Stars Preschool. Our school started small, with only one class and within the first 6 months we have quadrupled in size. I am thrilled to see how far our school has come and continue to work towards a vision, creating a wonderful program for your children!

Prior to opening Bright Stars Preschool, I taught at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School for six years. I taught Grade 1,  3,  5 and Resource. In addition I was very involved with the extra curricular programs offered at the school; including the elementary yearly musicals, primary clubs, elementary intramural program, cross country ski program, Mother’s Day Tea and a variety of sports teams.

Before my time at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir, I lived in San Jose, California for two years and taught Grade 1 and Kindergarten. This school specialized in Early Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL).

I completed my Education Degree at the University of British Columbia in 2001, with a specialization in Early Literacy. During this time I taught Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2 and 3.

I have also earned a Human Kinetics Degree from the University of British Columbia, with a specialization in Health and Fitness.

However, the most valuable experience I can bring to my job is being a mother of two amazing little boys. I absolutely adore spending time with them, watching them grow and learn with each new experience. These internal rewards, keep me incredibly motivated to provide a unique and outstanding Preschool program for my children and yours.

Sheri Kiist (Teacher Tuesday and Thursday)

What a thrill for me to work with the amazing team of teachers at Bright Stars Preschool and get to know the all of the children enrolled.  My passion for teaching and love of working with young children grows as I spend each day with the children learning, laughing and playing.  It is rewarding for me to watch these young people develop and grow through providing exciting learning opportunities and fun socialization times.

I am married to a wonderful man, Brian, and have three children - two in elementary, and one in Junior High.  I received my Bachelor of Education in Calgary, and have taught special education, as well as early elementary grades for the CBE for 7 years.   For the past 10 years I have been a stay at home Mom, and have been very active in our children’s school.

I enjoy sports, camping, and music.  I am so happy to be back working with children in a both a teaching, supportive role at Bright Stars Preschool.  I am honoured to be a part of these children’s beginning school experiences.

Teresa Horsley (Teacher Monday and Wednesday full days,  and Thursday afternoon

I graduated from the University of Calgary in 1996 with both my Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees. I have been a teacher for 8 years, 5 of which were spent teaching Grade One and Kindergarten. I was very fortunate to be mentored by an early literacy specialist, and was able to have each class of my Grade One students reading by the end of November.

Along with my early literacy knowledge, I also have strong backgrounds in music and physical education and plan to incorporate both into daily lessons.  Brain research has taught us that children learn best when lessons are personal, fun, creative, and active, so expect to see us singing, playing games and using our imaginations.

For the past few years I have been a stay-at-home Mom with my sons aged 9 and 7, and my daughter who is 5.  Having my own children has been a tremendous learning experience and has given me a great deal of insight into child development, learning styles, and the uniqueness of each child.   I have been gathering teaching ideas for the past few years and I am eager to put them into practice.  2011 / 2012 is going to be another wonderful year at Bright Stars!

Ann Meloche (Teacher Monday and Wednesday)

I am thrilled to be a part of the Bright Stars Preschool Team!  Working with preschool age children is truly rewarding.  I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher of young children.  I so enjoy the way their eyes light up when they learn something new and the enthusiasm that they have for life and discovering new things.

Most of my 11 years teaching for the Calgary Board of Education were spent in a Kindergarten classroom before I became a stay at home mom to my two children, ages 8 and 4.  I am so excited to be back in the classroom now learning and laughing with your children.  I am looking forward to getting to know you and your children this year.  It is a pleasure to be part of your child’s first educational experience.
